Heat Pump Performance at Very Low Temperatures
January 2024

All-electric air source heat pumps absolutely can work in cold climates such as we see in Canada.  There are many brands of cold climate heat pumps that are designed to work through the winter in Ontario's climate.  Proper sizing and integration of a backup resistance heater for the very coldest days will ensure superior home comfort. Just look at Finland, Norway and Sweden where heat pumps are the favoured form of home heating.
